Wiley Young Researcher Award on Materials Science for Asia-Pacific Regions: Apply by Oct 30

Wiley Young Researcher Award

The Wiley Young Researcher Award is conferred on early career researchers in the Asia-Pacific region who have displayed a commitment to excellence in scientific research and in improving the quality of life.

For 2018, the award supports high-quality research in Materials Science and recognizes outstanding researchers in Asia-Pacific for their dedication in improving and promoting the quality of life and creating a positive impact on the environment through their research in advancing Materials Science and technology.

Applications will be judged holistically as a body of research for quality and its resulting impact and on the primary basis of Quality, Novelty, and Impact of research. Consideration is not limited by class of materials or area of materials research.

Eligibility

The Wiley Young Researcher Award is made for Quality and Impact of research, and not for quantity. Applications will be judged holistically as a body of research for quality and its resulting impact. Consideration is not limited by class of materials or area of materials research.

Participation in the awards selection is open to all Early Career Researchers in Materials Science residing in Asia-Pacific.

These eligibility conditions apply:

  1. Applicant must be an Early Career Researcher below the age of 35 as of 31 December 2018.
  2. Applicant must be a resident in the Asia-Pacific region: Japan, India, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the regions of (i) Australia/New Zealand, and (ii) South East Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) at the time of award application.
  3. The body of research submitted for consideration must have been completed within the last 5 years.
  4. Research papers submitted
  • An applicant may submit up to a maximum of 5 key papers that is relevant to the body of research that will be judged on quality and impact.
  • At least one of these 5 papers must have been accepted for publication by Wiley. The Wiley-published paper must be a key paper and integral to the research.
  • Please provide a summary of not more than 800 words (in .pdf format) describing the impact of your research with reference to the papers submitted in your application. Your summary must reference the papers that you have chosen to submit and detail the relevance of the paper(s) to the impact of your research.
  • Applications must include the full paper(s) as .pdf attachment(s).
  • Self-nomination and collaborative research is permitted. However, the applicant must be a lead researcher/key contributor towards the body of research.
Terms & Conditions
  1. By participating in this Award, all applicants shall be deemed to agree to abide by and be bound by these Terms and Conditions and any decisions made by the organizing committee, subcommittee and judging panel concerning this Award.
  2. The decision of the organizing committee, subcommittee and judging panel on all matters relating to the Award shall be final, binding and conclusive on all applicants, including without limitation, any decision on the eligibility of any person or cancellation or suspension of the Award.
  3. The deliberations of the judging panel are confidential. All recommendations and decisions taken are binding and final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  4. In the event where that applications do not meet the winning criteria for the award, Wiley reserves the right not to award a prize. The judges reserve the right not to award the prize if, in their view, the quality of entries is insufficiently meritorious.
  5. Wiley reserves the rights to utilize the applicants’ works, photos and contact details for promotional purposes.
  6. Information provided by the participant(s) in relation to the Wiley Young Researcher Award (including photos, videos, and audio content), may be used by Wiley for promotional/publicity purposes. This may include and is not restricted to, the information being used on websites, social media, printed material, advertisements, press releases etc. Participant(s) may also be asked to be involved in additional promotional activities.
Prize & Winners
  • A total of 3 winners* will be selected.
  • Each prize consists a US$2,500 honorarium, an award trophy, and a citation certificate.
Application Procedure

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Wiley Young Researcher Award. The evaluations of each application will depend on the information provided in the application. Therefore, it is important that your application be as complete, current, and accurate as possible. Applications that are missing any of the requested information or do not follow the stipulated guidelines and criteria will not be considered.

Application Period: 15 September 2018 – 30 October 2018

Prepare the following documents for your application.

  1. A summary (100 words or less) describing the significance of your research work, its relevance and its impact on society.
  2. Letters of Support from two well-established scientists or individuals of prominence in education, industry, or government who are familiar with the applicant’s contributions. Each letter must not exceed 800 words and must be on official letterhead bearing your supporter’s signature in PDF format.
  3. Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae (1,000 words or less)
  4. Supporting documents for your application including but not limited to:
  • citations,
  • press coverage,
  • research papers
  1. You may submit up to a maximum of 5 key papers that is relevant to the body of research that will be judged on quality and impact.
  2. At least one of these 5 papers must have been accepted for publication by Wiley. The Wiley-published paper must be a key paper and integral to the research.
  3. Please provide a summary of not more than 800 words (in .pdf format) describing the content and impact of your research with reference to the 5 papers submitted in your application. Your summary must reference the papers you have chosen to submit and detail the relevance of the paper(s) on the impact of your research.
  4. Applications must include the full paper(s) as .pdf attachment(s).
  5. Evidence of your research bearing impact – examples include patents, official documents / public mentions that demonstrate acceleration of policies impacted etc.

Note: Acceptable file types: .pdf. All files should not exceed 40MB. Only links to video and audio files are accepted, please do not include entire video/audio files in your application.
