Travellers University invites you with open hearts to celebrate the incredible Phulkari craft from the magical lands of Punjab. Phulkari which literally translates to ‘flower work’, is a unique embroidery technique, with its history tied inextricably to the land of Punjab.
Phulkaris are an integral part of women’s wardrobe and have been known to be passed down from generation to another. It was once very closely related to the life of a Punjabi girl – with her maternal grandmother starting the work on her first phulkari piece at the time of her birth and it is completed by her through the years, to become an expression of love and art, draped on her wedding day.
We welcome you to connect with the artisans, live with them, become a part of their life and celebrate the craft and the craftsperson. Dive deep into the origins of the craft, its cultural importance and the essence of it in day to day lives.
Listen to the multifaceted stories of the artisans, the craft and the story behind the splendid designs. Immerse yourself in the colourful and vibrant culture, flavours, history and monuments of Bassi Pathana and Fatehgarh Sahib. Learn from the artisans and at the same time, contribute to the craft and craftspersons by sharing your skills as well.
Join the team to explore the diverse facets of Phulkari, to see for yourself how a piece of cloth is turned into a magnificent work of art and to experience the hospitality of the heartwarming people of Punjab.
The Yatra commences on 19th September, 08:00 a.m in Chandigarh and concludes on 23rd September, 07:00 p.m. in Chandigarh. The financial contribution for this yatra is INR 10,000/- inclusive of food, travel, accommodation and facilitation cost.
