About the Organiser
National Institute of Technology Patna (NITP) is the 18th National Institute of Technology created by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD) Government of India after rechristening the erstwhile Bihar College of Engineering Patna on 28.01.2004.
Overview of the FDP
UGC has notified Quality Mandate along with the initiatives to be taken by both Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and UGC. One of the proposed initiatives is to introduce Induction Program for the students taking admission at UG and PG level in Universities and Colleges as decided in the 534th meeting of commission (UGC) held on 02.08.2018.
Similarly, AICTE in its 49th meeting of the Council held on 14th March, 2017 approved a package of measures for improving quality of technical education in the country wherein it was decided that every student, on admission, shall be put through a mandatory Induction program to reinforce the fundamental concepts and the required language skills required for the technical education.
Objectives of FDP
A mandatory induction program for students was designed by Prof. Rajeev Sangal, former Director, IIT (BHU) and his team to be offered right at the commencement of the first year and classes will begin after this induction program (Now known as DEEKSHARAMBH).
The same program has been adopted as Deeksharambh by UGC and AICTE. Deeksharambh — a guide to Student Induction Programme was prepared to provide/enhance the mentoring capabilities of the faculty member of universities and institutions so that they are able to conduct Student Induction Program.
It has been observed that universities and other higher education institutions have started implementing the student induction program. They have done very good job in organizing various activities listed in the Student Induction Program. But, at the same time these universities and HEI’s have failed to deliver the Universal Human Values component of the student induction program.
The universal human value (UHV) is the core components of the student induction program and the objectives of the program cannot be achieved without the deliverance of UHV.
There is a need to conduct faculty training/development programs in order to provide/enhance the mentoring capabilities of the faculty members of all universities across the country in a phased manner.
