About
The Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, Pune is organizing a One-week online FDP on “Advanced Power System Protection” from December 1 to 5, 2020.
The College of Engineering, Pune-5 (COEP) started in 1854 has a rich history in the pursuit of excellence. The hallmark of COEP education is its strong and widespread alumni network, support of the system, and comraderies that the institute shares with several foreign universities.
The institute is consistently ranked among the top 50 technical colleges in India and its alumni have contributed a lion’s share in its development of national infrastructure.
Program Objectives
The power system network is becoming complex with multi-circuit transmission lines, large scale renewable generation, series compensation, and FACTS devices, posing increasing challenges to the protection engineers. This course will start with an overview of protection philosophies and the advances in information and communication technology, which has led to the development of advanced protection schemes.
The major focus of the course is on current research in differential protection schemes, backup protection schemes, distance relay, fault location techniques, CT and PT calibration algorithms, and system integrated protection schemes (SIPS). Exploring the research opportunities are also an integral part of the FDP.
Course Content
- Overview of protection philosophies.
- Synchrophasors, Wide-area measurement systems
- Advances in the distance and backup protection schemes.
- Current differential protection schemes
- Fault location schemes, instrument transformer calibration.
- Double circuit transmission line protection.
- Blackouts, System integrity protection schemes.
- Simulation in ATP-EMTP.
