IISER Bhopal invites applications for JRF & Technical Assistant posts for the year 2020. Applications are invited from Indian nationals for a research project entitled ”National Carbonaceous Aerosols Programme COALESCE: CarbOnaceous AerosoL Emissions, Source apportionment and ClimatE impacts” funded by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The project is organized around a three tier structure involving 17 Institutions with IISER Bhopal as an Associate Institute.
Technical Assistant
Nature and Duration: Temporary post upto March 31, 2021, extendable to one year if the project is extended.
Salary: Rs. 21,000 pm + HRA
Qualification: BE / B.Tech in Environmental, Chemical or relevant engineering disciplines. BS/MS or MSc in Earth & Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science or equivalent. BS/BSc in Earth & Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science or equivalent with 2 years of experience. The candidate should preferably have a fundamental knowledge of atmospheric aerosols, specifically aerosol chemistry, its chemical analysis methods and optical characteristics.
Experience in method development, operation and maintenance of any one of the following instruments (preferably for aerosol samples) is mandatory: Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (ED-XRF) Spectrometer, Ion Chromatography (IC), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), Thermal Desorption Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (TD- GC-MS), Thermal Optical Organic Carbon/Elemental Carbon (TOT/TOR OC/EC) Analyzer
Desirable: This position will be centered on aerosol field sampling, chemical analysis and field surveys. Prior experience in operating field instruments such as particulate matter air sampler, nephelometer, aethelometer, optical particle counter are highly desirable. The position requires excellent English communication (oral and written) skills.
Job Profile: Performing aerosol chemical analyses (EDXRF/IC/ICP-OES/TOR OC/EC/ TD-GC-MS) including sample preparation. Maintaining instrument log, audit and data records. Day-to-day maintenance of instruments. Preparing Quality Assurance/Quality Control reports. Preparing chemical analyses technical reports for integration with quarterly and annual reports.

Junior Research Fellow
Nature and Duration: Temporary post upto March 31, 2021, extendable to one year if the project is extended.
Salary: Rs. 31,000 pm + HRA
Minimum qualifications: This position requires a post-graduate degree (BS-MS, MSc, M.Tech) in Atmospheric Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering, from a recognized University/Institute. The candidate should preferably have a fundamental knowledge of atmospheric aerosols, specifically aerosol chemistry, its chemical analysis methods and optical characteristics. In addition to minimum qualification, a National level examination like National Eligibility Test (NET)/CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF/INSPIRE Ph.D/GATE/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or any other Fellowship is mandatory.
Desirable: This position will be centered on field sampling, chemical analyses and aerosol source apportionment. Prior experience in operating instruments such as particulate matter air sampler, nephelometer, transmissiometer, and weather stations are highly desirable. Experience with factor analysis including chemical mass balance and positive matrix factorization for atmospheric aerosols is valuable. Experience with performing Mie calculations and coupling in with source apportionment is an advantage.
